Condition grades for used parts

Used parts are graded A, B or C. The grade covers how a part looks, and for batteries and displays how well it works.

Most of our parts come from used computers, so many are graded for their condition. The grade shows on the product page.

Cosmetic grades

Cosmetic grades apply to the parts you can see from outside: displays, top cases, bottom cases, and iMac stands and housings.

  • Grade A, Very Good: minor scratches, scuffs or chips. No dents.
  • Grade B, Good: moderate scratches, scuffs or chips. Minor dents.
  • Grade C, Acceptable: major scratches, scuffs, chips or dents.

Batteries, and top cases with a battery

A battery’s grade comes from two numbers measured when we test it: its cycle count, and its capacity, which is how much charge it holds as a share of what it held new.

A top case with a built-in battery has both a cosmetic grade and a battery grade, and it sells at the lower of the two. A top case in Grade A condition with a Grade C battery sells as Grade C.

Displays

A display has a screen grade and a cosmetic grade, and it sells at the lower of the two.

  • Grade A: no defect you would notice. A used screen can have scratches, pressure marks or patches of colour that are hard to see. The picture is clear, with no colour shifts or distortion. The anti-glare coating, where there is one, is not worn, and the glass has no cracks or deep scratches. Cosmetic Grade A.
  • Grade B: small defects, such as a single dead pixel, or a patch of colour you see only against a solid background. Cosmetic Grade B or better.
  • Grade C: works fully, but has larger or more visible defects than Grade B. The anti-glare coating can be worn, or the glass scratched. Cosmetic Grade C or better.

We do not sell a display with a problem that stops it working properly once installed. That includes a camera or wireless antenna that does not work, a damaged antenna connector, a dim or dead backlight, cracked glass, or a fault that stops a laptop from closing properly.
