Find your Mac’s model and serial number

Find your Mac's serial number, model number or model identifier, then look it up to see its compatible parts.

To find the right part, first find out exactly which Mac you have. Any one of these numbers is enough:

  • the serial number, such as C02Q64CKG8WR;
  • the model number, such as A1398;
  • the model identifier, such as MacBookPro11,4.

In macOS

  1. Choose Apple menu → About This Mac. The window shows the model name, for example MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports), and the serial number.
  2. For the model identifier, hold down the Option key and choose Apple menu → System Information. Look for Model Identifier under Hardware Overview.

On the computer

  • MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro: close the computer and turn it over. The serial number and the model number (for example Model A1278) are printed near the regulatory text on the bottom case.
  • iMac: the serial number is on the underside of the stand.
  • Mac mini: the serial number is on the bottom.

On the box or receipt

The original box has the serial number on its barcode label, with the Apple part number, such as MLH12LL/A. The receipt or invoice can show the serial number too.

Look up your Mac

Type any of these numbers into the search at the top of any page, or use the Apple device lookup. It shows your Mac’s details and the parts that fit it.
